Teacher Appreciation Week 2019 starts on Sunday, May 5, and ends Saturday, May 11. It is a time to appreciate and celebrate teachers and the role they play in the future of our society.
This week provides an extra opportunity for students, parents, principals and board members, and others to show their appreciation for the hard work teachers do and the long hours many of them put in. It is not only a showing of thanks for a job well done, but also an opportunity to make their lives easier by offering ways they can save time and effort educating today’s children.
There is so much to learn in this world — how do you go about teaching children everything they need to know to succeed? Parents, grandparents, and society itself place our children in a teacher’s hands for 8-10 hours a day. A good teacher has empathy and understanding of the individuality of each student, and does their best to match their teaching skills to the child’s learning level. A good teacher listens, corrects, and encourages students to learn about the world we live in. They spend time grading papers, developing lesson plans, participating in classroom and after school activities, tutoring, and encouraging positive relationships between students. They come in early, stay late, and bring work home on the weekends.
A thank you can be as simple as stopping in their classroom to share your appreciation, offering to help with pre-class preparations, or cleaning up after a project. It can be as elaborate as offering a day off or as simple as carrying supplies in from the car.
Nasco is a proud supporter of teachers everywhere. We ask teachers to give us their input and insight as to what they need in the classroom to make their job easier. We encourage teaching by offering resources that help with their individual needs, lesson plans for their classroom, and opportunities to connect with others in their fields through our attendance at conferences around the country. We work hard to bring them what they need when they need it.
Teachers make a tremendous impact on the life of a child. They are the most important influence on our children’s lives besides their parents. Show them how much you appreciate all they do for the benefit of today’s children. Today and every day.
